Green New Deal for Social Housing
There is a massive housing crisis in DC. Landlords have raised rents rapidly since the end of the pandemic rent freeze, eviction filings are spiking, and thousands of our neighbors are sleeping outside. Meanwhile, developers continue to construct luxury buildings that few DC residents can actually afford. This crisis and the displacement it causes disproportionately impact Black and brown District residents.
The D.C. Green New Deal for Social Housing would create government-owned, mixed-affordability housing as a solution to meet our community's housing, economic, and climate needs.

Green New Deal for Lead-Free DC
DC's lead in drinking water crisis has gone on for far too long. Since the lead outbreak in 2004, DC Water has not done enough or worked fast enough to remove all lead service lines from our infrastructure.
Working with the Lead-Free Coalition, we're supporting people-led legislation that would remove all lead pipes equitably – starting with the wards with most demonstrated need and impact. To do this at the scale needed, we need massive investment and jobs opportunities. That's why we support the Green New Deal for Lead-Free DC.
Environmental Justice Act
Led by our partners at Empower DC, this bill would require an impact analysis before issuing permits that impact land use and planning. It would prevent further overburdening communities of color in Wards 4, 5, 7, and 8 with new polluting projects.
Metro for All
Enacted and funded in 2023, this bill makes all WMATA buses free for DC riders. Despite wide support and need, Mayor Bowser and the WMATA Board blocked the bill in 2023, forcing us into a longer fight for fare free buses.
Local Residents Voting
Enacted and funded in 2023, this bill extended voting rights in local DC elections to all DC residents - regardless of their status in the US. This bill enfranchises over 50,000 DC residents who will be eligible to vote in 2024.
Healthy Homes Act
Children who are raised in homes that burn gas (for example, when using their stoves) are more likely to develop asthma and other health issues. If funded, this bill would allow up to 30,000 households to remove harmful gas appliances from their homes.
